best tracks: curley teeth, lips, floor, ship, golden phone, calculator
after hearing about this guy through NME a few years ago, i thought i should check him out. i've been aware of his work for some time but i would say i've only been a fan for about a year or so.
discovering micachu and his band 'the shapes' were supporting Late of the Pier last february, i was pretty excited to be seeing two bands i loved. Their performance was so different to anything else i had seen, it made me love him more.
Jewellery is a fun loving and upbeat album different from the rest. odd instruments like cowbells and a hoover, yes, a Henry Hoover, ensure this band are totally original in all they do. most of the songs have no chorus and many fail to reach over three minutes in length.
'Lips' is an incrediably unbeat song with odd instrumentals, i fail to find something to compare it to. being only a meer one minute twenty seconds in length, you feel yourself wanting more from this song, it's over before you even start to love it.
'Ship' seems to stand out from the rest the most for me personally. The vocals seem to be 'jolly' and happy and featuring a different voice for the chorus you seem to occupied by this mans voice than the awful lyric that is 'all aboard, all aboard, all abaord, all abard, all aboard, actually no no abandon ship abandon ship!' reads ridiculously, sounds great.
I got this album for christmas and have completely fallen in love. Micachu (and the shapes) are undoubtably one of my favourite bands. this album is the album you long for; not having to press 'skip' on any of the songs, each are great and orded in a way that each is different from the one before. recommended for anyone with an open mind for music, willing to try new things and could learn to love a more 'relaxed and chilled Esser' perhaps.
