Glasto is over and done with for another year, and once again i had to put up with watching it on the tele. I will be there for real one day, i have to be.So i was glued to BBC3 red button and it was basically all i watched all weekend. I know its a little bias but without a doubt, Gorillaz were the best act there. Their performance was amazing! Damon rounded up all those different musicians- Snoop, Lou-Read, Little Dragon, Mos Def, everyone who featured on the tracks; it was good to see that no-one couldn't make it or pulled out. I don't think it would have been the same if the audience had to put up with just a backing track. In theory, you didn't just see Gorillaz that night, you would have seen a huge range of musicians doing a huge range of stuff with a huge range of different songs. Gorillaz shouldn't have been a fill-in for U2, they should have been headlining from the start, they deserve it. Glasto doesn't need a headline set the same as all the others, and Damon and Co gave something completely different instead of the bog-standard set with a few extra strobe lights here and there and a few bursts of fire or fireworks- which is what everybody knows that U2 would have done. It was 'refreshing' to see something new and exciting. Damon now holds a glasto record- the only person to headline glastonbury three times, and two times have been consecutive (twice with Blur and once with Gorillaz).
Mumford and Sons were also good to watch. They're nice too, something different. Shakira was surprisingly alright, i thought she would be terrible but it was bearable to watch. Seasick Steve was awesome! Florence was a disappointment, but then i dont like her or her music. I'm not into weird women who dance around the stage, fling themselves all over the place and write terrible lyrics and appear to be attention seeking.
once i'm 18 and can do what i like, Glasto is on the top of the list. I'm sick of watching it on tv. It would be an amazing experience, meet loads of new people and perhaps some musicians, see loads of bands and just be around a load of music lovers. Glasto appeals to me more than anything. Although it is starting to be known as 'the festival that people go to to get status', i only agree to an extent. Glastonbury will always be the mother of all festivals and i hope to one day be there too.
