the nme published the radar bands for 2010 list on wednesday and i would say i agree with some and don't with others. this radar list always seems to annoy me because i all ready like or love ninety percent of the musicians on it, and i'm the kind of person that likes to keep my bands 'small and little' and to myself i suppose.
okay, so firstly we have the drums. personally, i love them and i can see them getting pretty big on the 'indie' scene. i find this a little annoying because i've liked them for quite some time and like i said, i like to see them kept little. perhaps they can be described as an up to date beach boys? some people could say that the vocals and drums are a bit boring though. which i guess if ironic considering their name.
next is rapper 'giggs'. i couldn't really make my mind up on whether i liked him or not to begin with, but i think he's a bit of a 'grower', his songs seem to get better once you've listened to it a few times. i guess his music isn't like the stereotypical hip-hop/rap kind of stuff in the charts. i think this is better. you can kind of relate to it on more levels.
'egyptian hip hop' is next on the list. a misleading name i must admit, it's not hip hop at all. if you want a vague comparison, i suppose they're a calmer 'empire of the sun' with less over powering drum beats. i've seen them in nme a couple of times and checked them out, i really really like them but i don't know if they'll take off like i think the drums will.
'the pains of being pure at heart', a rubbish name for a great band. just like the beatles i suppose, or the sex pistols. i love this band so much and have done for a while, i find their music different from a lot of other stuff i've listened to. i find their sound hard to explain, so you'll hav to check it out for yourself.
ellie goulding. i'm not quite sure why she's in the radar. she's allready made it fairly high into the charts and a lot of people know who she is. her album comes out soon so i'll most likely check it out. i'm not crazy over her but i think she's allright.
there are other bands on the radar, like the ones featured on the '2010 mixtape' but the ones i talked about have main articles about them in this weeks issue. i think maybe 'innercity pirates' and some bands like 'kid british' should maybe have some more recognision.
looks like i'm going to have to fork out even more money for albums this year.
